“The purpose of life is not to be happy..."

“The purpose of life is not to be happy.
It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

~Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1803-1882, Philosopher- Poet-Author-Essayist

One of the first things I learned when I became a Christian was God desire for us is not happiness but holiness. Your statement of being honorable, compassionate, etc. agrees with what God's desire is for us.

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."
-1 John 1:2

If it is God's will for us to prosper and be in good health, then I believe it is also His will for us to be blessed, i.e. happy.
